There will be times where you will need to engage in warfare to do this. Once the game starts, it will select a random location where you will start your new civilization. Their leader will let you know the technology available in the village or city, and the units that are exclusively available in their area. You will have a total of 18 different civilizations to choose from, each one having its own pros and cons. Points will be collected once the timer runs out. The game supports both single-player and multiplayer mode where you compete with or against real Civilization IV players or computer-controlled characters in casual game mode or hot-seat mode. It is based on the actions of each civilization and their ability to grow during time-based tasks or modes. Scores are given to each civilization throughout the game.
